Our ski-tastic history

Kitzsport – serving Kitzbühel for the past 100 years

1921: Hansjörg Schlechter invented the first “Kitzbüheler ski”.

Thanks to his innovative technology, the ski with the chamois logo became an international hit and even broke speed records: the high-speed ski made for racer Leo Gasperl in 1934 reached up to 136 km/h!

Kitzbühel’s first sports supplies shop

Advancing industrialisation in the early 1970s made the in-house manufacture of skis unprofitable. The Schlechter family decided to focus on the sale, hire and servicing of sports supplies instead – and Kitzsport was born. Today, around 50 years later, INTERSPORT Kitzsport is Kitzbühel’s best-known sports shop. And the legendary Kitzbüheler skis are once again doing long and short turns on the Horn, the Streif and the Ganslernhang slopes!
